Sunday Devotion - Not Common or Unclean

I want to be an encouragement to people, and I really hope this blog will be that to someone. The blog title "An Unclouded Day" and the theme song all point to a happier time, encouraging us to keep on keeping on!

Today is Easter Sunday, and the resurrection is the perfect picture of this weeks devotion.

The text is from Acts chapter 10 where Peter sees a vision in Joppa, then travels to Caesarea to see Cornelius

(Acts 10:9-15)
9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
(Ephesians 2:8)

All three of those points: Saved through Grace, not of ourselves, and the Gift of God....are repeated over and over again in The Bible. God loves us, and God alone saves us!

Life brings us to unpleasant places sometimes, places we desperately want out of ... isn't it nice to know that God cares about our plight, and that God himself has provided eternal security for us?

We must pray always for those who still thumb their noses at Gods glorious gift, and for ourselves that we never stop caring for peoples situations and their souls.

I came across a great opinion piece by David Brody on the CBN News website worth passing along. And it echos my thoughts almost exactly!

The issue being discussed is the level of public acceptance of Christians dropping to below that of homosexuals. If true, it is the first time since the first century that Christians would be thought of so lowly.

The tables have been turned. Evangelicals are now the ugly stepchild. In our American culture today, you can easily make the argument that it is harder to stand for biblical truth than it is to be a supporter of gay marriage in today's society. CBN News Blog

The decline of prestige suffered by the Christians isn't the only reason for this reversal of approval ratings, there has been a significant rise in the social acceptance of the homosexual identity over the same time period.
